Collaboration: the University of Salamanca and the Air force

The specific collaboration agreement between the Ministry of Defense and the University of Salamanca for the training of UAV operators has been published today in the BOE.
The purpose of this agreement is to establish the general framework within which the University of Salamanca (USAL) and the Ministry of Defense (MINISDEDF) may collaborate to carry out activities related to technological development, teaching, scientific research, transfer and technological development mainly within the field of aeronautics and astronautics.
The aptitude is established and the title of Unmanned Aerial Systems Operator is created for members of the Armed Forces, designating the Matacán School Group (GRUEMA), of the Air Force (EA), as the military teaching center responsible for imparting the teachings leading to the obtaining of the aeronautical qualification of Unmanned Aerial Systems Operator.
That the USAL intends to develop Training Contents aimed at civilian personnel in the field of training of Unmanned Aerial Systems (UAS) operators. Additionally, in collaboration with the companies installed in its Scientific Park, it may have UAS and simulation elements for its platforms, as well as personnel to operate them, all of the aforementioned aspects being of interest to the Air Force.
The purpose of this Agreement is to establish the principles of collaboration between the EA and the USAL, for the provision of training related to obtaining the UAS Operator qualification for the personnel of the Armed Forces (UAS School of GRUEMA), and for the training of civil UAS operators.
Given the need for segregation of airspace to carry out certain flights included in the practical part of said teachings, it is intended to establish the conditions under which the EA could facilitate the segregation of airspace to the USAL, in accordance with the request procedures and operating requirements established in the Standards on the Operation of UAS, as well as support for the use of certain military facilities and necessary logistical means, to be determined by mutual agreement.
